In collaboration with the local council, our garden design atelier had the opportunity to breathe new life into a public roundabout through a carefully curated naturalistic planting scheme. This project is part of a broader initiative to reintroduce nature into urban spaces, making them not only more beautiful, but also more resilient, sustainable, and inviting for the community. The design features a vibrant composition of hardy perennials and ornamental grasses, chosen for their adaptability, structure, and seasonal dynamism. These plantings transform the roundabout into a living landscape that evolves throughout the year—offering bursts of color, soft textures, and rhythmic movement that catch the eye of passersby and commuters alike.

Key objectives of the project included:

  • Enhancing biodiversity in the urban environment by attracting pollinators and other beneficial wildlife

  • Reducing maintenance and water use through the selection of drought-tolerant species

  • Creating a visually engaging space that celebrates the natural character of the region

  • Demonstrating how ecologically minded design can elevate the quality of public areas

By choosing the naturalistic planting style, the roundabout becomes more than just a functional traffic feature—it turns into a pocket of wild-inspired beauty and an emblem of green public space. It’s a small but meaningful step in bringing more nature back into our daily lives, one planting at a time.
