About Me
Passionate outdoor enthusiast, landscape designer, and artist
My name is Marie Kubaskova, and besides being a garden and landscape designer, I'm an artist - painter. My passion for plants, a natural affinity for creativity and imagination, and a yearning to work amidst nature’s beauty led me here. Being a garden designer and landscape designer is more than a job; it’s an avenue to evoke smiles and meaning. It’s about designing landscapes that enrich lives, rebuild and give back to our environment.
Oxford College of Garden Design
I proudly hold a distinction in The Diploma in Residential Landscape Design from the esteemed Oxford College of Garden Design in the UK. The college, renowned for its contemporary garden design expertise, stands as a testament to my dedication.
Garden designer in Spain
My deep bond with nature took root during my childhood in the Czech countryside, where meadows, forests, and waterways shaped my perspective. Consequently, living in my second home country, The Netherlands, further honed my perception of the high aesthetic of residential garden design and design of public spaces. Today, I reside in Spain, immersed in nature, painting my world with its vibrant hues, both in garden design and painting practice.
Most importantly, my love for garden design, painting, and gardening springs from the harmony they bring. Nature's wisdom is my guiding light, forever inspiring me. I'm both a student and a creator, drawn to nature's rhythm and it's colourful wisdom.
My love for art as a landscape designer
In what ways does the art of painting impact me as a garden and landscape designer? Painting is a form of artistic expression that involves experimenting with colours, textures and compositions. This creative mindset spills over into my garden design work, allowing me to approach landscapes with a fresh perspective and innovative ideas.
A garden as a canvas
My knowledge of colour theory is invaluable when selecting plants, flowers, and hardscape elements for my garden designs. The sense for creating harmonious and visually pleasing colour pallets is important both in painting and garden designing. Just as in painting, the principles of composition and balance are vital in garden design. A garden, a landscape is in fact just another type of canvas on which I paint in order to create something meaningful and beautiful.
Nature as a source of inspiration
How does my role as a garden designer affect my approach to painting? Working as a garden designer exposes me to various natural landscapes and elements. This exposure serves as a rich source of inspiration for my paintings, allowing me to incorporate organic forms, textures, and colours from nature into my artwork.
It is exciting to explore how my skills in both areas seamlessly intertwine and enrich my creative journey.
My garden design philosophy is to integrate the garden
My garden design philosophy is a nuanced response to my clients’ unique needs. It’s about listening intently to your desires, seamlessly uniting your house with the garden, and crafting a harmony between the garden and its surroundings. Achieving this harmonious integration involves a thoughtful selection of plants and materials that echo the character of the house and its setting. A delicate or daring foundational structure, complemented by a planting design curated for the specific site, completes the composition.
Landscape designer with Naturalistic Planting Style
I greatly enjoy the canvas of various planting styles as a planting designer. Yet, with sustainability and a commitment to nature’s restoration in mind, I’ve focused deeper on the realm of Naturalistic Planting Style. I’ve enriched my expertise through planting style courses led by highly esteemed figures like Dutch Garden Designer Piet Oudolf, garden designer and author Dr. Noel Kingsbury, and the visionaries Michael King and Dan Pearson.
Embracing the naturalistic approach extends a warm welcome to wildlife within our private garden sanctuaries. Butterflies, bees, birds, frogs, and even small reptiles find a refuge here. The ecological essence of this style demands less maintenance, minimal irrigation, and synchronicity with the environment. While my passion lies in the realm of naturalistic planting, I am well-versed in and adore a variety of planting styles. I believe in tailoring each design to your individual preferences and needs, ensuring a harmonious blend of aesthetics and function throughout your outdoor space.
My aspiration is to create unique, timeless outdoor spaces that are perpetually alluring, beckoning you to spend cherished moments in your inspiring garden. This is where my role comes into play. I’ll guide you through each phase, transforming your current space into one that mirrors your personality, preferences, and needs, all in sync with nature’s rhythm. It’s a collaborative journey – we’ll shape this endeavour together, intertwining your aspirations, my expertise, and imagination into a harmonious creation. Together, we become authors, and your garden will be a result of your vision, my skill, and our collaborative spirit.
